Dining at The Galleon Restaurant

Published by admin at 2:28 pm under Dining Guide

After a really beautiful sunset sail with Caribbean Sea Adventures on the Jolly Mon, we were looking for a new place for dinner.  After striking out at a couple of places (we didn’t have our list with us to know who was closed and who was not!), we found The Galleon Restaurant, waterfront at the Green Cay Marina, open.  What a dinner!

There were not a huge number of vegetarian suitable items on the menu, but with the specials offered, there were enough that I felt that I had more choice than a salad, as is often the case when dining at traditional restaurants.  The sherry vinaigrette dressing on my salad was a nice complement to the manchego cheese and pine nuts, and my “vegan harvest” dinner was delicious, more than just some vegetables thrown onto a plate.

My husband had the roasted rack of lamb, which was cooked to perfection and nicely accompanied; my mother-in-law had the mahi-mahi, again, not overdone and the seasoning and accompaniments were thoughtfully prepared.

The Osso Buco, however, had to be the crowning achievement.  One of my father-in-law’s favorite dishes, he is a connoisseur.  When it arrived at the table, even I had to admire the way it was just falling off the bone, and the smell was tantalizing.  Dad says it was the absolute best he has ever had!  Risotto can be tricky to get just right but this one had been well-attended in the kitchen and was everything you could hope for.

The Galleon is on the upscale price range, and a bit of a longer drive from Villa Soleil, but well worth it if you are looking for a special place to have dinner when you visit St. Croix.
